the saving resources is wrong. they would accounted for two people, originally, and then saved because of the single person, but given the speed of the episode, the resources would have still been allocated for two. so there wouldn't be any impact on resources, or a very light saving of resources.

A more advanced race influencing a less advanced race, directly or indirectly, can easily make a non-intervention rule or at least a tread-very-carefully intervention rule quite naturally sensible. But of course not all factors of Star Trek’s Prime Directive have been sufficiently agreeable. Personally it always upsets when a quite identifiable urge to help people in need is dramatized as harmful in any way. Knowing when to make exceptions to the rules, even the rules that we might usually feel quite comfortable with, is always a most interesting Star Trek drama for me. Of course knowing the right ways and the wrong ways is most important. But to be as realistic as possible, I would never jump to the conclusion that the Prime Directive is somehow racist. I just wish that it wouldn’t always be made to feel like a cosmic minefield with all the Star Fleet dilemmas which can get wearisome. The case-by-case basis may indeed sound like a fair perspective. The biggest mistake was when they made the Klingons the good guys. ST finally had the budget and the technology for serious space battles and they blew it. They could even had a Civil War when the Federation helps the rebel Klingon overthrow the evil Klingons. But, we got the Ferengi.

If anybody ever asks me why I put Picard near the back of the "Which captain was best?" queue, this episode would be my exhibit A. Kirk would have saved them, and I think Sisko would have. Even Janeway or Archer, depending on the writer of the week. Kirk gets extra points, though, because I think we would have punched Picard, too.

I disagree, I think there is some time travel answer to defeat the borg out there somewhere that doesnt involve killing them at their inception, but at the most critical time which has yet to come.

What I really liked about Rebels is that it sold how well Vader's seemingly slow and clumsy fighting style measures up to prequel style saber combat. He seems slow until they get up close, but every slash and jab gets countered. He seems clumsy, but the second someone jumps around him, there's his blade, swiping those sneak attacks aside. And then, once the attacker is confused at how they can't get through, Vader _presses._ An unending, crushing, smashing barrage of Force and cybernetics enhanced blows, each one a killing blow unless parried or dodged, Vader falls like an avalanche. I like to think this was intentional on his part, since he knew how other Jedi fought and how to counter them best. He would draw them in and smash them to pieces. Any who had the good sense to keep their distance would find themselves Force-sparring with Anakin Skywalker AKA the guy who can crush a dude's windpipe via Zoom call.

I always figured the Borg Queen was a reaction to humanity giving them a fight. From the Borg's perspective they just saw the Enterprise D move a whole hell of a lot faster than their scans say should be possible, so I think Q got them curious about us. Then with Q coming up as a normal human on their scanners suggests that the Borg adapted to humanity and our natural instincts to organize ourselves into a hierarchy. From their point of view, it might've been the reason why they think we got the Enterprise D to move so fast, because of our humanity. That's where the Borg queen came from, she was an adaptation to our humanity. I also always favored the theory that the Q originated as humans, just through very advanced technology and with humanity just starting to explore time in the Star Trek universe during the last few seasons of Voyager, I think that means that the Q originally stated with us as regular human beings. I also think that's the reason why our specific Q has always been so interested in humanity, and why he always tested us. He wanted to make sure we would use the Q technology "responsibly" or at least his idea of responsibility.

My take is that Sisko never forgave himself for what the war has turned him into. In a pale moonlight, he said he can live with it, but how many times do we lie to ourselves to keep us going, at least for our loved ones. However, any chance at ending his own existence, he was gonna take it, especially one that is heroic and can benefit others. That's why Sisko didn't even have a second thought pushing Dukat and himself into the fire pit.
